If you want to avoid mental illness, you may want to stay away from Washington, D.C. According to a new study, the capital of the country has the largest number of psychiatric patients in the country. Amazed?

To find out how the number of psychiatric patients is divided by state, Ryan Murphy, professor and research author of Southern Methodist University, used previous information on P personality traits. Then he ranked 48 states on the mainland of the United States and the District of Columbia according to the characteristics that might define mental illness, and determined that the mental illness level in the United States capital was much higher than that in any state. Why is this case? According to his previous research, he believes that this is because psychopaths may be effective in the political arena. & quot; Hmmm.
, but that doesn't mean that Washington is full of crazy Hannibal voters. When many of us hear the word "psychiatric", we think of masked serial killers -- most politicians obviously don't -- so what is the definition of psychiatric patients? Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a clinical psychologist and professor of psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles, told livestrong.com that a mentally ill person is a person who lacks compassion and is qualified, manipulative and exploitative, liable to cheat and lie. In the face of any bad behavior, they will not feel guilty or regretful.
Dr. Duvasura agrees with Murphy that politics is the logical profession of psychiatric patients. & "It provides them with strength and a perfect habitat for manipulating and utilizing them," Dr. Duvasura explained. In addition, it allows them to frame their more vicious motives as something that seems to be in the common interest. For example, they start a new school or some other public activity, while transferring funds to businesses that keep them well-paid. & When it comes to everything from ensuring donors to getting the most votes, politics also requires manipulation. Because the strengths of a psychiatric patient often include lying, exploitation and indifference to the negative effects on others, this makes politics perfectly suited to them.
However, Dr. Duvasura quickly pointed out that, of course, not all politicians are mentally ill.
-She said: "There are some very motivated politicians, but they are getting fewer and fewer, mainly because of how our political system is structured in the United States and in many parts of the world." She explained that these systems require individuals to use strategies such as manipulation to get what they want from the perspective of donors and votes, which are the advantages of psychiatric patients because they are willing to lie and exploit, regardless of who they need to throw under the bus. & quot;
How Murphy created this list: Using previous studies, he established five levels of personality traits (easygoing, outgoing, open, conscientious and neurotic) in each state, and then transformed these traits into psychiatric-related traits. Arthur (to suppress, dare and despicable). & Murphy explained to Quartz, "Bold corresponds to low neuroticism and high extroversion, stingy corresponds to low agreeableness, and restraint corresponds to low sense of responsibility." Using this information, Murphy was able to design a number of original scores for each state he used to evaluate the rankings. Connecticut, California and New Jersey lag behind the District of Columbia in the number of psychiatric patients, while Wyoming and New York are tied for the fifth place. According to his study, West Virginia was the least mentally ill state, followed by Vermont, Tennessee, North Carolina and New Mexico. Murphy told Newsweek that he believed that the distribution of psychiatric patients across the country was related to the differences between urban and rural areas. Basically, they are more likely to be urban than rural, which is another reason why the District of Columbia is geographically dense. I've been at the top of the list.
These findings have been published on the social science research network, but have not yet been peer reviewed, which means that external researchers have not yet recognized Murphy's findings. The following is a complete list of psychiatric patients:
